These mistakes can range from simple problematic issues to things that could quickly lead to premature device failure. Let me quickly explain why. Every cable has inherent resistance. The thinner the cable, the more resistance the cable will have. There are other factors as well, but this is the big one. The more resistance a cable has, the more it will affect the frequency response which is possible at the end of the cable run. The reason this is related is because the load the amplifier has to deal with when driving a pair of speakers, changes with frequency. So if you add more resistance with cables that are too thin, you can actually change the sound—particularly at higher frequencies.
Older Apple TVs won’t. I use a basic Yamaha receiver , but any brand should be fine. All the movies you actually want to see of course are encoded in ways you’ll be able to hear them; do you really think you’d ever buy a major DVD or Blu-Ray disc or watch something on Netflix for which you’d get nothing but silence? If you have speakers already connected to your stereo, fully disconnect them. Active crossover units are larger than passive ones and need to be mounted in a stable location, ideally near your amplifiers. Using the appropriate cables, wire your crossover into the receiver or preamp, with the wires coming out of the receiver going into the “in” terminals on the crossover.
Depending on your receiver and your stereo system, you will probably be making this connection with RCA cables, but some crossovers will are set up to use speaker wire instead as detailed in Method 1 if your receiver doesn’t have RCA outputs.
Answer yes, you can, either via a Y-cable to the sub output, or via a pre-amp, or hook them up parallel to a mono amp or if you have a 2 channel amp then just hook them up regurally but if you have a mono amp then have two positive and two negative wires coming out of the amp then hook 1 negative wire up to the negative spot on a do the same with the do the same.
Watching a movie on a properly set up surround sound system, or listening to your music through a new set of speakers can be an amazing experience. But, the key to a great home theater isn’t just spending a lot of money. Setting up the system correctly is just as important as what you buy. This guide, very simply, walks through the basics of speaker placement, how to hook everything up, and how to change a few settings to really make your system shine.

Marantz SR A/V Receiver Review
Monday, October 30, – It’s something that is commonplace with Velodyne’s subs and can be found in Polk’s higher end subs like the PSW of course, we also utilize an amp with this feature. I could be wrong, but I don’t think this would overload the sub’s input. Oddly enough, this isn’t true.
If one of your subwoofers has both an RCA Line-in and Line out connection option, you can opt to connect your home theater receiver’s subwoofer pre-out to your subwoofer’s line in, and then connect the subwoofer’s line out to the line-in of a second subwoofer.
HDMI High Definition Multimedia Interface cables combine digital audio and video connections in a single cable Depending on the brand and type of LED that a person is trying to connect, it may have one type of audio port or it may feature ports for all of the above connections. RCA cables are the lowest quality cables available, and should only be used when there are no digital connections available. Digital provides better quality audio, so when possible, users should opt for an optical audio cable or an HDMI cable.
There are some steps that need to be followed to ensure that the connections are made properly. Before connecting the LED TV to the audio receiver, users may wish to connect the other components to the receiver and ensure that the speakers are connected and in working order. Additionally, the TV owner needs to make sure that the TV is mounted in place either on the wall or on a stand.
For safety reasons, it is important that the installer is sure that the TV is secured in place before making the connections. Checking the TV and Receiver Ports A person should be sure to check both the LED TV and the receiver to see which ports are present before determining which connections to make, and which cables to buy.
Input and output jacks are usually located on the side or the back of an LED TV and the back of an audio receiver. Input jacks are designed to receive the signals, and output jacks are designed to transmit the signals from the TV to the sound system. The receiver will likely have more input and output ports on the back of it than the TV does, but users should check to see which input ports are available.
How to Hook Up a Subwoofer & Amplifier to a Stereo
High current discrete power amplifiers on all 7 channels deliver astonishing power and clarity, and it delivers immersive 3D surround sound thanks to both Dolby Atmos and DTS: Bluetooth and AirPlay can stream music directly from portable devices, while HEOS wireless multi-room music integration allows the NR to become part of a complete home-wide music system. Explore and play your own music library, online streaming music services and thousands of Internet radio stations, using the free HEOS app.
One option is that you can use an RCA splitting cable, where you will plug one end into the Sub Out on your receiver, and now you have two Outputs that you can run individually to the two subwoofers. The only problem with that is that typically the subwoofers are placed quite a distance away from the electronics, and you may have to run two.
Dolby Atmos and DTS: At first, 4K was boasting a bump in resolution, which is all fine and dandy. But because most people sit too far from their displays for it to matter much, another hook was required—and it has now arrived in the form of high dynamic range HDR plus wide color gamut, delivered by the competing incompatible formats dubbed Dolby Vision and HDR Of course, with this new technology, the HDMI specification has changed once again: Your flagship AVR will have to check both of those boxes as well.
Most top-line models tap out at nine channels. And as I requested, this receiver packs inside the 11 channels of amplification needed for a 7. The front panel has a black aluminum finish, with a large and easy-to-read LCD readout centrally located. The volume knob is on the right side; the main power and Zone 2 power buttons are underneath. The rear panel sports dual Wi-Fi antennas located at the top of each corner, which makes the AVR look a bit like an alien with protruding ears when viewed from the front.
Other connections include seven HDMI inputs plus two outputs. There are five analog stereo inputs, dual stereo outputs Line Audio and Zone 2 , three Toslink inputs one output , and two coax digital inputs, as well as IR in, trigger out, RSC , FM antenna no AM , Ethernet, factory-service USB, a wireless setup button, a grounding screw for you vinyl lovers , and a detachable power cord. Additional outputs include subwoofer two in parallel and 11 main pre-outs.

Marantz SR Receiver 9. X surround decoding, with the ability to drive overhead speakers. It is equipped with 9 channel amplification, rated at watts per channel, so you can set up a 7.
Jan 10, · You can use a splitter cable that has one RCA jack on one end and two RCA jacks on the other. That will split the subwoofer signal from the receiver into two, and then you can hook up both of your subs.
Lloyd Bill Marsh said: This was with my sony 53 ” tv –both speakers ontop. Now i have gone front projection and use 3 speakers for center. An Energy 8 sub with wires hooked parallel to the HD-7’s. Heard quite a few top quality centers but this setup sounds better. If you calibrate with a sound meter make sre that the 2 speakers are adjusted to match the others otherwise the centers will predominate and probably stress your amp or reciever.
Personally speakers stretch the sweet spot somewhat therefore the others in the room benefit by it. The center obviously carries the brunt of the dialog so the better you can make it sound the better the movie experience will be. I’m assuming the 2 speakers timbre match your main speakers? By the way the sub i have crossed-over at 40 hz and up so the brunt of Bass is handled by the large subs in the room. Parallel or series hook-up both work and sound about the same to me.
Parrallel seems to be more logical to me unless your wires are 12 gauge and you can’t twist 2 together and fit them to your amp. All of thegobbledegook about interference waves from dual center speakers. If the writer uses them- or three- and likes the results, then the theoretical problems don’t apply!
Connecting an AV receiver to another AV receiver
Posts 6, I wouldn’t bother with that. A whole lotta trouble and expense for not a whole lotta gain, and high potential for things sounding a lot worse than before. The thing you need to first ask yourself is not whether such a setup is possible, but what kind of performance you want your system to deliver. Once you answer that question, THEN you figure out steps to achieve that performance goal. Otherwise, you’re simply hooking up the extra surround speakers just because you can, not because they do anything to improve your audio quality.
Jan 07, · I’ve got a an AVR that has a single ‘sub’ output, but I need to connect it two powered subwoofers. How can I do this (using line-level conneciton, not.
I use these stores. I can’t vouch for ads below. One is not enough While just one subwoofer is enough to enjoy movie sound in 5. While low frequencies are less directional, and the direction of a low-frequency sine-wave point-source may be less perceptible, critical to fine music reproduction are low-frequency interchannel phase differences present in true stereo recordings. When reproduced properly with stereo subwoofers or two full-range speakers , these phase differences are critical to reproducing the sound space of the original concert hall.
Critical even to casual listeners is that if you sum the low frequencies of true stereo recordings into mono by using only one subwoofer, low-frequency interchannel phase differences partially or completely cancel each other, reducing or eliminating low-frequency output levels! Try jamming a stereo bass signal through one mono subwoofer and you lose a lot of hall ambience as well as bass level. True stereo recordings are usually classical and other proper acoustic recordings made with pairs of microphones.
Most “stereo” pop and jazz recordings are really just multi-miked mono, with each mono mic “panned” someplace between left and right. Pop recordings rarely have low-frequency interchannel phase differences, although they usually have bass information panned one way or another that also should be reproduced through stereo subwoofers if you demand the most accurate reproduction.
